  • Finish

To preserve the vivid color of the padauk wood and enhance its durability, we've applied a water-based clear coat enamel finish. This not only accentuates the wood's natural grain but also safeguards it from environmental factors, ensuring your model remains as breathtaking as the day you bought it.

  • Engravings

    • A thoughtful V-carved inscription on the top surface, bearing the words "Horseshoe Bend, Page, AZ" along with the total area, pays homage to the landmark. It's a gentle reminder of the vastness of the actual location, condensed into this stunning model.
    • On the backside, you'll find the "Wild Woodworker" logo and web address etched, along with a curated list of interesting facts about Horseshoe Bend. It's like your personal mini tour guide, ready to entertain guests or enhance your own knowledge about this natural wonder.

    Facts:

    • - The bend in the horseshoe is 270 degrees.

      - The overlook is 4,200 feet above sea level, and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet above sea level, making it a 1,000-foot drop.

      - Horseshoe Bend is made primarily of Navajo Sandstone, which is a type of rock that dates back to the Jurassic Age, making it over 200 million years old.

      - The remarkable shape of the bend was carved out by the Colorado River over millions of years. It's an excellent example of how water bodies can shape the landscape over geological timescales.

      - The Navajo Sandstone at Horseshoe Bend contains various minerals, which give it a range of colors. Iron oxide, or rust, gives the rock a reddish-brown color, while the black streaks are caused by manganese oxide.

      - Erosion is still happening today. Over time, the bend will become even more pronounced, and eventually, it could become a natural bridge or even an isolated spire.

      - The rock walls have "desert varnish", a dark coating on the surfaces of some exposed rocks in arid environments. It's made of clay minerals, oxides and hydroxides of manganese and/or iron, as well as other particles such as sand grains and trace elements. It provides the rock face with a shiny, polished look.
